"Alternative,
experimental, dark, hopeful and complex" is how Anaida describes her new album Quest.
To her, Quest is exactly that: a very personal search for musical growth. While
every album is unique, this one is special for Anaida. Quest is close to what's
called an international album: it was recorded in Greece and Brussels, and mastered in the
Netherlands. It was produced by American producer Joey Balin, who's been associated with
Boyzone and 2Unlimited. Anaida hopes that long-time fans will be surprised and, of course,
pleased by her new album's sound. Quest is a maxi-CD (an extended single featuring
three or four tracks) and an entirely new concept in India.
The title track was composed by Ashutosh Pathak for the sound track of the movie Bombay
Boys. It was re-recorded and produced afresh for the album.
The seemingly dark Good Day To Die is inspired by a Red Indian tradition of
celebrating death. The third track, Faith is Love, borrows heavily from traditional
Indian music. The Indian release will contain a bonus track: a duet with Greek singer and
classical pianist Stefanos Korkolis, who wrote the song for Anaida and named it after her.
The song, sung here in both Greek and Hindi, was originally released in 1997 in Greece
where it went gold.
With Quest, which was in the making for three long years, Anaida was able to
fulfil a long-cherished dream. She entered a new phase in her career by moving out of the
Indipop genre.
"For a musician, there is nothing more exciting than exploring new styles. As an
English-language album, Quest is not aimed at the masses, but I think Indian
audiences are ready for something different," says the singer.
Quest also gave Anaida an opportunity to get behind the camera. Retaining
footage from the earlier video shot for the Bombay Boys project, Anaida re-shot and
re-edited the video to suit the song's new version.
"This song was so personal and there were so many things I wanted to convey, both
visually and musically, that it seemed best to do it myself," she said.
